Vern LeFevers in Jack Lusby's #M2 and Mike Duvall #F1 line up for the
1982 World 100. Jack Lusby built this car himself and it was the only
homemade chassis to make the World in 1982. Jack asked another driver
to drive it at the World. The driver told Jack "it's not good enough to take
to Eldora". That driver sat in the stands and watched Vern LeFevers start
the tail of a heat and make the 1982 World 100. Duvall would go on to win.
Vern ran 9th. They didn't have the money to buy tires after they made it.
When he came in the rear tires were bald. They loaded the car and as soon
as they did......The right rear tire blew.
Vern LeFevers in the Morgan Chandler wedge #28 at Florence
Speedway in 1983. They called this car "Thumper". It was a Howe
Chassis that Chuck McWilliams drove the year before. That winter
they took it apart and made it a wedge. I'll never forget Morgan had a
hanging scale in the barn and every part that went on that car was
weighed and lightened.

drive this car at Florence Speedway and a rock hit his hand and split it
wide open. He refused to stop and finsihed the race. When he pulled in
the cockpit and deck lid was full of blood. He was right back the next
week with stiches and a big heavy winter glove on that hand.

of the 20 lap heat. As he put it on the top shelf to pass for 3rd he was
pinched into the wall and his day ended. This was a cantilever car. It is
one of the fastest cars I ever saw at Eldora. This same year Don
Hobbs drove this car to a Kentucky Classic win.

the lead in the Dash, Heat and Feature only to have the car quit all
three times. Sam had cleaned the fuel cell that winter. Later after
cleaning the cell he noticed his watch crystal was missing. They found
the watch crystal in the fuel cell. They would go on to win many features
in this Swartz Leaf car.
