Sam Sommers
NASCAR official Dan Scott explains to Sam Sommers that things are
not right with his carburetor following a Late Model Sportsman race at
Myrtle Beach Speedway in 1973. Sommers was disqualified and went
home with no winnings.

Sam Sommers won many races on paved tracks, but he also was one of
the best on dirt. He also competed one year on the Winston Cup circuit.
He is shown here at Myrtle Beach Speedway
where he was almost unbeatable in the '70's.

Myrtle Beach Speedway. He also won his share of races at
Columbia Speedway when it was dirt.

Following a very successful career in the Late Model Sportsman
and Nextel Cup divisions, Sam Sommers comes home to his roots
and runs on dirt once again at Oglethorpe Speedway,
near Savannah, Ga. in the 1980's.
