Racin Round Indiana.....5/10/06
Well Friday night found me at Bloomington Speedway again, and the features were off the HOOK!!! John Stanborough took the win making that a four pack for him ( 2 at Bloomington and 2 at the Burg). Kevin Huntley stepped in for the injured Dickie Gaines and when he went rim riding I knew he was headed for the front. With about 3 laps to go Huntley got to close to the cushion for a babble and Stanborough jumped on the chance and took the lead for the win. The mods took to the track and a repeat of a fantastic last lap win. Richie Lex was pretty much the dominate factor in the race but Ray Humphrey threw it all at him and took the Checkers coming out of 4 for the win by about 3 feet. The Super Stock feature was a heller and I almost lost my voice on it. Jeremy Hines looked like he was the man to beat, getting leads at least a half a straight. With 5 laps to go the caution came out and Jeremy said in his interview that it was either driver error or the tires going, but Greg Amick got around him with 2 laps to go.
Saturday night I was in my usual sit at Brownstown Speedway. Steven Godsey made it a 2 for 2 night for him. Steven purchased Jason Setser's old ride last year and proved to the crowd it was a damn good deal. Steven was fighting off Shawn Negengard and Rohn Moon for several laps and then towards the end Mohn fell back and here came Barnett and we all know what he can do on a black slick. Steven held them off for his first late model feature win since 2000. Steven said in his post race interview that he thought he had good equipment but didnt really realize what good equipment was until he purchased this car. While on the track doing his interview one of his crew pulled the bomber to the track and he strapped in for the Feature. Jacoby Hines and Edgar Godsey were the front runners and here came Steven. The three fought it out three wide for several laps and Steven came out front. But from the Fourth row here came Bub Cummings at it was on. Jeremy Hines found Victory lane in the Super Stocks Saturday night. After 3 second place finishes at Bloomington and a blown engine I believe. I was glad to see him score the win after the way he had been running at Bloomington. Paragon Speedway has been on a 2 week break and will return May 13th with a regular show featuring Sprints, Super Stocks and bombers.
Twin Cities raceway was host to the Mods this weekend. For those of you not familar with the format, Brownstown and Twin Cities switch off with the Mods and Super Stocks. Earl Plessinger won in the mods.
Lincoln Park Speedway in Putnamville gave us the father/son team of Kenny Carmichael Sr. and Kenny Carmichael Jr. Kenny Carmichael Jr. won the Sprint car feature with Dad following up in 6th place. Kenny Carmichael Sr. finished second in the Super Stocks behind Danny Harris. With the Carmichael clan you never know what they will be driving week to week. A sprint, A Bomber or a mod or Super stock. They just love to race.
Last night I made the trip to Thunder Valley Speedway in Salem Indiana for the opening night of the Indiana Speedweeks. 30 Late Models were on hand for the Opener. It was exciting watching the lates trying to get around the 1/5 mile track. Reminded me of watching Bristol on nascar, but of course Late Models are better. Thank you, Tawyna and Mason Fleetwood for all you did to make it a great show and the threat of rain stayed away for the racing action.
Where Ever you venture to race this weekend, just keep one thought in Mind. A full moon on Saturday May13th!! It seems to me when there is a full moon the racing is on the edge as well as the fans and drivers. You see some WFO racing action and some great boxing action for the price of one admission.
Until Next time Felicia Nunn
