Racin Round Indiana.....4/13/06
Welcome Everyone to Racin Round Indiana. My name is Felicia Nunn, but in the Indiana Racing Circles most of you know me as Ma Nunn. I have been around the Racing Scence since I was 2 years old which makes this my 43rd Season!!. I am a wife and mother of 2 grown children and now you can add Mother In Law to the list.
I was enlisted to keep you up to date on the small race tracks in the Southern Indiana Region. Alot of these tracks are diamonds in the rough that do not get much spotlight, but on any given race night can put you on the edge of your Seat. I am a Saturday Fixture at Brownstown Speedway and go to Bloomington Speedway on Fridays and pop into the small local tracks on the Special Late Model Shows. It is important for me as a fan to support the small weekly tracks to keep it alive for the upcoming fans.
While most of the tracks in my area this past weekend had practice, Brownstown Speedway has already had a major event. The Icebreaker was Held April 1st, paying 10,000.00 to win. 69 Late Models were on hand. Earl Pearson Jr. was the victor. 57 mods came into town for 1,000.00 to win. Denny Swartz made a very very last minute almost to the finish line pass of Local Favorite Lee Hobbs to capture the feature win. The always competive and entertaing Bomber division produced 38 Entries I believe, Bub Cummings came out on top. An new Godsey entry into the division was Andrew Godsey and he was a front runner as well. The night was cold, but by gosh the racing was hot. I had an awesome time that night and covered in mud from going out and taking pictures..lol. The new news this year around the track is the admission has benn lowered back to 10.00 and now children 12 and under with a paid adult are free.
Bloomington Speedway opens Friday April 14th with a regular show. Since last years Final race for the Mods and Super Stocks was cancelled due to rain, they will introduce the top ten in each divisions points on the track and then have a greet and meet session with them for the fans. Bloomington has decided to skip the qualifying for the Sprints and go to pill draw for them. A admission change has happened at the Speedway 10.00 for adults and Children 6 and under are free and children 6-12 are 5.00. The local newspaper here in town wont mention it But Indiana Late Model Speedweek is on tap for May. Our local Reporter thinks Late Models are ugly and boxy and really wont mention them at all.
Thunder Valley Speedway in Salem Indiana is a little secret you will have to Check out. Admission is usually 8.00 and the racing is head on. Mason Fleetwood really keeps the show moving. They will have practice 4-14-06. Late Models will be there on May 5th if your not at your local track its worth the drive. Mason has been doing some banking is what I understand and the late models were nose to tail there last year, Chris said it reminded him of Macon.
Paragon Speedway is having practice on 4-15-06, Pit admission only. This is a small Sprint and Super STock and Bomber track. Keith Ford averages about 60 sprints a weekend. Every Sprint makes the feature and he runs 2 sprint features a night. Admission was increased to 12.00 for stands and 25.00 for pits. If your into an occassional sprint race its worth the trip. Twin Cities in North Vernon had practice last Sunday with a good Turn out. Action begins on Saturday April 15th with Super Stocks, Pure Stocks, Mini Stocks and Cruisers. Twin Cities is host to an occassional Late Model race. General Admission is 8.00.
Salem SuperSpeedway opened up its regular Season last Sunday April 9th. On April 22 and 23rd The Kentuckiana Ford Dealers Arca 200 rolls into town. One of the drivers, Ken Schrader according to The Bedford Times was in Salem last week doing a little testing for the race. I would like to give a shout out to my driver of the week, Kent Robinson. Kent is a senior in High School I believe. He was driving Super Stocks last year, moved into Mods this year. Made the Feature at Brownstown at the Icebreaker out of 57 cars and finished 12th. He ran at Terre Haute last weekend and finished 5th in the feature. I watched him at practice and the Icebreaker and he was looking good in his mod and I do believe you will see more top ten results out of him this year. Now for my rant of the week, everyone should keep on there local newspapers for good and current coverage of your local track, Our local newspaper does something every week but it is one sided towards the Sprint drivers but it is an effort to let the population know there is a track in the area. They dont let the population know that there are 5 tracks within an hours drive of Bloomington. I know that the reporter gets so sick of my emails all summer long!!!
See you next week with more news and track gossip and a new driver of the week...SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL TRACK AND RACER!!
