Rocky Top Raceway Summer Sizzler 40 Review
June 15, 2007

By Kyle Jones

On Friday night June 15th, I made my first trip of the year down to the
Rocky Top Raceway near Coal Grove Ohio for the $3,000 to win Summer Sizzler
40 for the Super Late Models. Last years running of the Summer Sizzler was
outstanding with Tim Dohm picking up the win, could he do it again?

27 Super Late Models were on hand including RJ Conley, Rod Conley, Delmas
Conley, Jackie Boggs, Josh McGuire, Tim Dohm and many more. Jackson Ohio's
Greggie Oliver started his night off well by setting fast time with a lap of
14.455. Heat race winners were RJ Conley, Doug Drown and Shawn Holiday. Tim
Dohm took the dash while Dennis Little won the B-Main.

The 6T of Tim Dohm and the B1 of Josh Bocook brought the 20 car starting
field down to the green flag with Conley jumping out to the early lead. Dohm
however was not going to let Conley pull away as he stayed hot on his heels.
Third place Josh Bocook appeared to have a very strong car but got into Dohm
exiting turn 2 and turned him around. This forced Bocook to the tail of the
field. This was the first of many cautions to come. Another strong car was
Josh McGuire but he lost the handle on his own exiting turn 4 that forced
him to join Bocook in the back. From this point on, the race never really
did settle out as caution after caution flew over the field. One car that
had no problems however was the 12 of Doug Drown. Doug was one of the very
few drivers trying the top groove and he was making it work. No one had
anything for RJ Conley in the late stages as he went on to take the win.
Dohm was 2nd followed by Rod Conley, Josh McGuire, Greggie Oliver, Doug
Drown, DJ Miller, Casey Vitale, Chris Wilson and Josh Bocook rounding out
the top 10. Just a little tidbit, the feature race took 56 minutes to
complete.

Hats off to the 12 of Doug Drown! I believe this was Doug's first ever trip
to Rocky Top and probably won't be his last. Doug qualified in 8th quick and
easily took the checkers in heat race #2. This started him in the 8th spot
for the feature where he ended up 6th. He was one of the few trying to top
groove and was in the battle for 4th place the entire race.

This was a good tune up for those drivers who plan to come back to the IRS
show on Friday July 13th. Yep, I said Friday the 13th, ha-ha. Not sure how
it could be any crazier than the Summer Sizzler but I guess we will see what
Friday the 13th will bring. That's it for me, this weekend I will be headed
to the Attica Raceway Park on Friday night for double ALMS features and to
the K-C Raceway on Saturday night for an IRS show.
