2005 Sumter Speedway Champions

Sumter, S. C. - The 49th season of racing came to a close at Sumter Speedway Saturday with the
running of the annual Thanksgiving Turkey Shoot-Out and the presentation of the trophies, jackets
and cash to the track champions for the 2005 season.
The season at the 3/8-mile dirt oval consisted of 15 points races and 18 events overall in six
divisions.
The Pure Stock and Pure Street divisions had rule changes in May, so two champions were
crowned...One for the spring and one for the summer in each class.
Three of the championships were decided in the last race of the season and it was proved that
consistency was the way to go and the championship is not won by the number of wins during the
season. Matt Holland won the summer Street Stock division without a single win, while finished
third, even though he had six wins and eight overall. James Stephens chalked up nine wins but
finished second to Joey Ayers, who recorded one win in the Pro Stock class. Robert "Duck" Pack
led the Late Model T&L standings until the last race, but lost the championship by five points to
2-time winner Jody Truett.
